A COUPLE who ran a city centre shop after leaving the Army are today celebrating 50 years of marriage.

John and Jean Reed lived in 18 different addresses in Britain and abroad before settling in Cotswold Way, Huntington. They ran the The Candle Shop in Stonegate from 2003 to 2011.

They had to move so many times because he was a lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals.

In 1992 he left the Army and the couple ran a seaside hotel in North Devon. They came to York in 2003.

The couple, who married in St James Church, Breightmet, Bolton, when both were 22, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with their family. They have three children and six grandchildren.
