VOLUNTEERS are needed for North Yorkshire Police’s York cadet unit.
The force’s first Volunteer Police Cadet unit was launched in York in 2015 in partnership with Askham Bryan College, and police now want another 10 cadets to join the ranks.
Cadets aged 14 to 16 who live or study in the York area will undergo training nights at Askham Bryan College during term time, learning about policing duties, policing skills and basic law, and taking part in physical activity and drill.
Natasha Almond, citizens in policing coordinator manager, said: “Cadet nights are great fun as well as providing worthwhile activities that support policing in North Yorkshire. Our existing cadets have had a great two years and now that some have reached 18 and are moving on, we’re inviting more young people to come and join in and experience the exciting opportunities it has to offer.”After the first three months of initial training, cadets will take their oath at a passing out ceremony attended by family and friends, then help out with policing at community events.
