ARMED police hunting a wanted man swooped on a flat in York city centre at the weekend.
The raid happened at between 9.30pm and 11pm on Friday when police in body armour and carrying guns were seen by witnesses going in to a flat in Coppergate Walk, which has vehicle access from Piccadilly.
Several marked police vehicles were parked up next to the bus stands outside Primark’s city centre store, and across the gated loading area to the side of the shop.
Police could be seen going in to a flat via a walkway on the first floor. The identity of the man is unknown.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:" Firearms officers conducted a search on Friday, June 2 at an address in York following intelligence surrounding a wanted man.
"Officers entered a flat in Coppergate Walk, York, at around 9.30pm, intent on arresting a man wanted for drugs and firearms related offences. No arrests were made and the man is no longer believed to be in the York or North Yorkshire area.
"Police would like to reassure the community there was no threat to wider public safety."
