JET setting Romans from Los Angeles have made a 5,000 mile trip across the pond to appear at this year’s Eboracum Roman Festival.
Lorie Ann Hambly and Centurion David Scott Michaels from the Legion VI Historical Foundation will be joining the gathered Legions in York Museum Gardens tomorrow and on Sunday.
The foundation recreates the campaigns of the Legion VI who spent many years in York under Emperor Hadrian and began building Hadrian’s Wall.
As well as appearing in full costume, Lorie will be giving a talk tomorrow about the importance of women’s fashion in Roman times.
Graham Harris, chairman of the Eboracum Roman Festival, said: “We are thrilled to have Lorie Ann and David with us for this year’s festival. Their enthusiasm for being part of the event is fantastic and it shows the international reach of York’s Roman heritage.”
Lori Ann’s talk takes place at 2.30pm and is free with entry to the Yorkshire Museum.
Other events include Roman Ghost Cellar tours of the Treasurer’s House and a first look at the conserved Wold Newton Hoard at the Yorkshire Museum.
Outside there will be military displays and parades by soldiers from various Roman Legions, a Kid’s Army, Birds of Prey demonstrations and authors’ tent.
