A GREAT evening of fun for children is being lined up next week by family and friends of Katie Rough.

The family fun day in memory of the seven-year-old is being staged at York Acorn Rugby Club in Thanet Road on Friday June 9, starting at 5pm.

It will take place five months after Katie was found with serious wounds in a field off Alness Drive, in Woodthorpe, and died later in York Hospital, with a15-year-old girl accused of murdering Katie due to go on trial next month.

Activities on the evening will include two bouncy castles, soft play for toddlers, face painting, glitter tattoos, a barbecue and a disco.

There will also be Disney characters, an ice cream van, a sweet cart, a cake stall, a kids’ lucky dip with a prize every time and a raffle.

Entry will be free and many activities will be free as well, but the event will raise money for York Mind and also for the Phoebe’s Roundabout appeal, which has been set up in memory of Phoebe Casson, a little girl from Sale in Cheshire.

She died from a rare genetic condition called LPIN1 which also cost the lives of two of Katie’s cousins, Callum and James, some years ago.

The appeal is now raising money for research into the condition after paying for a new children’s roundabout.

Sarah Nockels, Katie’s auntie, has said the event will be about ‘getting together and remembering Katie in a fun way,’ while Katie’s mother Alison has posted on Facebook: “Come and join us as we repay the kindness and generosity of our community, everyone welcome.”
