EACH year, the York Design Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the best new buildings, restoration projects or public spaces in York.

The Hiscox building, York Art Gallery, the Your Bike Shed cycle café in Micklegate and the restored Walmgate Bar have all won awards in the past. But what will win this year?

In April, judges visited every one of the 33 projects entered for this year's Design Awards.

They range from a new clubhouse for the Hamilton Panthers to three medieval church bells brought out of storage to act as a symbol of peace in commemoration of World War 1.

The four judges will choose winners in several categories, with the winners being announced at an awards ceremony at York Racecourse on June 26.

But there's one award that is entirely in the hands of you, our readers.

York Press:

Each year, we ask you to vote for your favourite scheme. The winner of that public vote will be presented with the prestigious Press People's Award on awards night.

“The Press People’s Award is a very important category,” says Janet Hopton, chair of the York Design Awards committee. “The judges have their own view about what constitutes great design. But it is the people of York who will have to live with these buildings. So your opinion really matters.”

Of the 33 schemes entered for this year’s York Design Awards, 32 have put themselves forward for The Press People’s Award.

You can see details of each of the entries and cast your vote using the link below.

This year, we're asking for you to vote for your three favourite schemes. So study the entries, then tick your three favourites. It’s your chance to send a signal to the designers and architects about the kind of development you want to see in our city.

Voting closes on Wednesday June 7 - and the winner of the Press People’s Award will be announced at the York Design Awards evening at York Racecourse on Monday June 26.
