A MEAT thief who alternated court appearances with repeated shoplifting trips to the same convenience store has been put under a nightly curfew.

York magistrates gave Michael Timothy Webster, 29, a six-month conditional discharge on February 16 for theft. They also gave him a 12-month community order when he appeared before them for more crimes on March 23, said Martin Butterworth, prosecuting.

On March 13, April 5 and April 12, he stole meat from the Co-op store in Paragon Street, next to the Barbican Centre in York.

Defence solicitor Mark Partridge told York magistrates he stole to feed himself as he had no money.

Webster, of Robinson Court, Walmgate, York, pleaded guilty to three charges of theft and was given an eight-week nightly curfew from 7pm to 7am.

Mr Butterworth said Webster stole two chicken wraps, a pint of milk and 40 tea bags worth together £7.68 on March 13, four steaks worth £30 on April 5 and two chicken wraps worth £5.90 on April 12.
