YOUNG people in York do a lot to make a positive difference in the community and deserve recognition for their achievements, a Community Pride Awards sponsor said.

CPP, which sells life assistance products, has got behind an award to recognise York’s inspirational young people, by sponsoring the Spirit of Youth category.

Primarily based in York, with offices in Holgate Park, CPP says it is “honoured”to be part of the prestigious awards.

Will Oaten, UK country manager for CPP, said: “We are especially proud to be the sponsor of the Spirit of Youth category. Young people do so much in our community to make a positive difference. You only have to look at the previous winners in this category to realise that. And it’s these amazing teenagers who will shape our communities of the future.

“By rewarding their endeavours and achievements, we’re letting youngsters know how much their efforts are appreciated and what a difference they’ve made to the lives of those around them.”

Mr Oaten added: “That’s why making a nomination is so important. It not only gives the nominees a warm glow, it helps to spread that glow throughout the community.

“At a time when we hear a lot of news about people being divided for any number of reasons, it’s opportunities like this that allow us to celebrate those things we’re proud of and bring us together as a community.”

The winner of the Spirit of Youth award last year was All Saints RC School’s Action Minds group.

The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden.

All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area.

Three finalists from each category will be invited to the awards ceremony at York Racecourse in October, when the winners will be revealed.
