THE police use safety cameras to monitor speed and earn revenue, however the safety scope should be much wider.

Take for example the road from Stockton Lane into Hopgrove Lane South.

The road drops and curves quite sharply from the bridge and the 30mph signs are virtually hidden from sight by overgrown foliage and there is no supplementary “30” painted on the road surface.

Evidence from the police safety cameras showing such obstructions could be forwarded to the relevant council/land owners.

There are numerous examples of signs for warnings, junctions and turnings that are obscured by vegetation depriving road users of vital advance information.

Obviously this safety aspect would incur costs to the police rather than earning them money.
