FOOD glorious food brought the crowds flocking to a North Yorkshire town in their thousands over the weekend.

The music wasn't bad either at the Malton Food Lovers Festival.  Organisers expect around 30,000 to have sampled the wide range of street available at 50 stalls, bought from more than 150 artisan producers, tried their hands at cooking themselves, listened and talked to the experts.

Celebrity chef and British-Jamaican reggae musician, Levi Root, with his band The Herbs and Spices, combined both the eating and the entertainment side of the festival and in the evening their music had people dancing in the streets.

Festival director Tom Naylor-Leyland said: "We're having the most brilliant day.  There have been a couple of storms but people are really quite determined to enjoy themselves."

He said his personal highlight was the presence of celebrity chef Prue Leith, who has been passing on some of her secrets, and variety of street food on offer for all tastes and diets.

“It’s truly astonishing for highly-acclaimed foodies, such as Prue Leith, to call Malton their favourite foodie town," he said.

“The atmosphere that has filled Malton this weekend is like nothing I’ve experienced before."
