STRENSALL’S Chris Quantock knocked out a pair of former world darts finalists on his way to qualifying for two more PDC European Tour events.

Quantock prevailed 6-2 over 1999 and 2000 BDO runner-up Ronnie Baxter to help him make the field for the Austrian Open in Schwechat, which will be held from June 23 to 25.

Earlier, he had enjoyed a 6-1 triumph over Kevin Painter, who lost to Phil Taylor in the 2004 PDC world-title decider, to book his place at the HappyBet European Darts Matchplay tournament in Hamburg, with that event taking place from June 9 to 11.

Both Baxter and Painter are former Premier League players and join the likes of Vincent van der Voort and Paul Nicholson on the list of notable scalps already claimed by Quantock during his first year on the full PDC tour.

His Baxter win came after a 6-1 victory over Peter Hudson and he went on to overcome Matthew Dennant 6-2 to qualify for Austria.

After beating Painter, he then whitewashed Ross Twell, meaning he only dropped one leg to secure a spot in the German competition.

Fellow Minsterman Richie Corner will not be joining Quantock in Europe, following losses to James Richardson (6-2) and Robert Thornton (6-1).

Corner gained his revenge on world number 15 and 2012 UK Open winner Thornton with a 6-3 triumph in the PDC’s 11th Players Championship event at Milton Keynes, before the former Mitre player was defeated 6-4 by Josh Payne in the second round.

Quantock, meanwhile, knocked out top-30 player Justin Pipe 6-3 at the event, but was edged out 6-5 by Michael Rasztovits in the next game.

In the 12th Players Championship competition, Quantock and Corner both suffered 6-2 defeats to Antonio Alcinas and Paul Rowley respectively.

Quantock, who has risen to 91st in the PDC order of merit, will be bidding to better his performance on his European Tour debut, when he knocked out Nicholson at the Gibraltar Darts Trophy earlier this month, before narrowly losing 6-4 to 2014 BDO world champion Stephen Bunting.
