THE heatwave is set to end with a deluge in York and North Yorkshire - just as the Spring Bank Holiday weekend is getting underway.

Temperatures, which hit 24 or 25 C today, are set to rise again to 25C, or 77F, tomorrow, with long sunny periods and a south-easterly breeze.

But while the Met Office expects Saturday to start sunny, dry and humid, with temperatures reaching 23 or 24C, heavy, thundery outbreaks of rain are likely to arrive later, perhaps with hail, potentially spoiling any barbecue or camping plans.

Temperatures will fall to about 20C on Sunday, with mostly cloudy weather, and down to only 16C on Monday with a chilly north-easterly breeze, particularly on the coast.
