NORTH Riding FA County Cup winners Old Malton St Mary’s made it a trophy double this season when lifting the York Minster Engineering League's Senior Cup with victory over Riccall United in the final at Tockwith.

Saints may have lost their league crown but it has still proven a successful season in the end, as goals by Steve Baxter, player-boss Darren Dunning and Danny Fogg (2) brought them a 4-0 victory and their second piece of silverware.

Old Malton quickly took control of the match and it took just seven minutes for the Ryedale side to take the lead, Baxter nodding past Liam Houston in the Riccall goal.

Six minutes later, Baxter found himself in the clear again only to hit the side-netting.

Riccall then got in the ascendancy for a short period but could not carve out chances and were almost hit by a sucker-punch when Harvey Townley waltzed past four defenders only to hit a tame shot straight at the Riccall stopper.

A teasing ball from Andrew Best then offered a chance to the Selby side but their strikers could not get past the Old Malton defenders and the ball bounced harmlessly out of play.

Saints continued to press and were rewarded on the 40-minute mark when Dunning’s 25-yard free-kick bounced awkwardly in the United area and looped in over the defender on the line.

Three minutes later, the game was effectively over, as Townley's pinpoint pass found Fogg on the byline with the striker flicking the ball past the advancing keeper from an almost impossible angle.

The second period saw St Mary’s resume where they had left off with Fogg heading just wide from a Connor Shipley cross.

The striker did get his second goal nine minutes later, though, when slotting a rebound past Houston.

Soon after, the stopper had to make a magnificent save to prevent Townley from increasing the lead.

With 10 minutes to go, Best’s shot for Riccall cannoned off the underside of the bar and bounced out, providing further evidence this wasn’t to be their night, while Gary Collier also fired two late chances narrowly wide.

Malt Shovel also ended the season as double winners - adding the League Junior Cup to their division four title after a dramatic final.

A remarkable game with Heworth Green ended 5-5, the lead having swapped hands throughout, before Declan Coulthard’s spot-kick sealed the Selby side a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout, amid heroics by keeper Joe Swash.

Jake Raistrick had bagged a hat-trick for Shovel with Brad Hall and Luke Pearse also making the scoresheet.

The Reserve Cup final saw Church Fenton White Horse, of reserve 'A', see off surprise finalists Wilberfoss, of reserve 'C', 6-1.

The warning signs for Foss came early as keeper Sam Hendry had to produce an excellent save to deny Ben Sleight.

But he then turned villain, bringing down Andy Maxted inside the box, with Maxted opening the scoring from the spot in the 11th minute.

An unmarked Lenny Mason volleyed home from a throw-in to double the lead before an excellent move saw Wilberfoss hit back through a Jamie Webster header.

A fantastic glancing header from Ben Jones just before half-time got Church Fenton back on track, and he got his second on the hour-mark, making the most of an excellent advantage played by referee Peter Hartley.

The lead could easily have increased further but for a magnificent double-save from Sleight.

Nevertheless two identical goals from Maxted in the last five minutes saw the striker complete his hat-trick and round off a convincing victory.
