THE Conservative manifesto should be a suicide note for their election prospects if only voters understood its implications.

At present, people only have to pay the full cost of social care if they have £23,250 in savings.

The Tories plan to raise this to £100,000, but crucially now include the value of any house in this figure.

This means that those who contract long-term degenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease will have the cost of their care deducted from their estate when they die, meaning that their family may not inherit the family house as it may need to be sold to pay for care.

I have always promised my son that, one day, my house will be his.

Although he works hard and runs a successful business, he cannot get a foot on the housing ladder due to high house prices in York.

I now face the prospect that, under the Tory proposals, if I become ill and need long-term social care, he will lose the house I worked hard to own.

Why should the means of your demise determine whether your family inherits your house or not?

The new Tory proposals are unfair and uncaring.
