FIREFIGHTERS had to admit defeat when they were called to the aid of a cat stranded 50ft above the ground yesterday morning.

A crew from Pickering fire station used all its expertise and several different techniques, but was unable to rescue the stranded pet from the tree.

They had been called out by the RSPCA, which was concerned about the animal that was 50ft above the ground in a tree in Dalby Forest and was not coming down.

The firefighters tweeted they had to give up after trying every trick they knew to persuade the cat down.

They left the rescue to the cat’s owner and the RSPCA.
