I FIND it strange that City of York Council Labour group leader Janet Looker (Letters, May 17) takes a swipe at Ed Young, the Conservative candidate for York Central, for being, in her words, “London based”.

She has conveniently forgotten that Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour candidate, Rachael Maskell, was airlifted by her party into York Central to contest the 2015 election with virtually no knowledge of York.

In comparison, Ed grew up in York and his parents and sister still live and work in the city.

Ms Maskell has attached herself to all manner of protests and causes, showing up with placards and criticism at any chance to slam the Government or Conservative-led council.

This may have at least taught her where key public buildings are located, but “working in the interests of York residents”, I don’t think so.

Ed Young is local boy made good who through a scholarship and hard work has done well and come back to his home city to stand for Parliament.

If Cllr Looker wants to vote for the local candidate that is, in fact, Ed Young.
