YORK and North Yorkshire look set to enjoy warm sunshine right up to the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
Temperatures are forecast by the Met Office to peak at 24 C, or 75F, in York on Saturday, with long periods of sunshine as high pressure dominates the UK, feeding in southerly breezes.
Sunday and Monday should also be sunny in this region, if a little cooler.
However, forecasters admit there is some uncertainty over the behaviour of an Atlantic low pressure system, which may drift in from the southwest to bring showers at times towards the end of the bank holiday period. Computer forecasting models are said to be 'struggling to reach a consensus.'
Sunshine seems certain for most of the run-up to the weekend, including today, when temperatures are set to reach a maximum of 19C in York, although tomorrow may be a little cloudier.
The dry weather is in total contrast with last week's rainfall, which had the benefit of dampening down fire risks on the North York Moors.
