YOUNGSTERS braved wet weather for a chance to see a variety of creatures at a pond dipping session in York.

The session, held by the Friends of Clifton Backies Nature Reserve, took place at the reserve’s pond on Saturday afternoon.

The group organised the event to give children an opportunity to explore an aquatic habitat, and to see different creatures up close, from frogs to dragonfly nymphs.

Clifton Backies, situated between Bootham Stray and Water Lane in Clifton Without, was officially designated a Local Nature Reserve in 2002.

The Friends of Clifton Backies was formally constituted in May 2004 to represent local people with a common interest in the Clifton Backies Local Nature Reserve.
