A MUCH-LOVED York park needs £2000 to stage its annual party, and is appealing for help.

Friends of Rowntree Park Birthday Party Committee needs a cash boost of just over £2000 to stage this year’s event, following recent cuts to funding.

Party planners are busy tying down final arrangements for the park’s 96th birthday party, which takes place on Sunday, July 16 in the park. This year will see new activities, displays, bands and DJs to build on last year’s success and attract even more visitors - but only if enough funds are generated.

Cath Mortimer, the Friends’ secretary, said every donation will help.

“The Birthday Party is a fantastic event, but organising it is a huge undertaking, with many hours spent on planning and on the day itself.

“A lot of the work is done by the Friends, as volunteers, but there is much which can’t be done for free. Your pledge can be a very token contribution – the smallest amount is £2.”
