A centuries-old hotel reopens today after a 12-week £1 million refurbishment.

The Golden Fleece in Thirsk dates back to Tudor times and is among the oldest coaching inns in the country.

Hotel manager Neil Doogan said: “The aim of the work was to give this historic coaching inn a new lease of life, whilst maintaining its Georgian architecture. We’re delighted with the outcome and can’t wait to show off our fresh new look and introduce our new Eatery and Coffee House to the local community.

“The Golden Fleece benefits from its fantastic position right in the heart of the town and we hope we continue to be known as the go-to-place in Thirsk for family-friendly, relaxed all day dining for locals and visitors alike.”

There will also be a new outside dining area with a pizza oven. The hotel has taken on 30 more staff as a result of the refurbishment.
