CUB Scouts have been helping make neighbourhoods better since the days of Bob-a-Job week. Sadly, their efforts to brighten up a verge in Osbaldwick by planting it with wildflowers were ruined - by a council grass-cutter.

Local councillor Mark Warters had asked for the verge not to be cut. But a grass-cutter who didn’t normally work in Osbaldwick noticed the verge was overgrown and promptly mowed it.

Bob-a-Job gone wrong, if you like. But this seems to have been a blunder motivated by good intentions. The council has apologised, and offered to replant the bulbs and wild flowers.

Perhaps the Cubs could help?
