UNIVERSITY of York’s Central Hall is getting a £700,000 overhaul, and work has already started at the Heslington West campus.
Engineering firm Britcon has been handed the contract as part of a programme of refurbishment works planned for the university.
Work has already started on the first stage of the 10-week refurbishment. All the windows in the Central Hall will be replaced with curtain walling to improve the energy efficiency of the building, and electrics and mechanics will be upgraded.
Gary Ashmore, head of estates development at the university, said: “The Central Hall refurbishment is part of our ongoing commitment to significant investment in providing high quality teaching and learning environments across our campus.
“We are delighted to have Britcon working in partnership with us as we embark on this three year programme of transformation of this landmark facility at the university.”
Britcon’s contract follows a £68,000 refurbishment project the company carried out at the university’s Information Centre, stripping out and reconfiguring the building.
Britcon, based in Scunthorpe, has also recently finished a major project at Queen Ethelberga’s Collegiate at Thorpe Underwood.
