BUCKINGHAM Palace announced earlier this month that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has decided it is time to retire - and that from the autumn of this year he will no longer carry out public engagements.
That is perfectly understandable, given his age - how many of us would want to be still working at 95?
He has visited York and Yorkshire many times down the years, however, in company with his wife the Queen, becoming a hugely popular figure in the process.
The Duke may still attend occasional public events in future. But we're probably unlikely to see him here in York again.
