THE Lord Mayor of York is taking his fundraising activities right ‘to the tape’ by staging events on the two days before he hands over the chains of office.
Cllr Dave Taylor said Cllr Barbara Boyce will be inaugurated as York’s next Lord Mayor on May 25 but on May 23, he is planning a ‘Last Supper’ for the Lord Mayor’s Dining Club at The Whippet Inn.
He said: “Andrew Whitney, the serial entrepreneur behind this gastronomic gem, invited me to hold a charity dinner there, and the tickets have flown. A few may be available, at £35, if you contact Annabel at The Whippet Inn on 01904 500 660.”
The following evening, guests will go to the rooftop garden of The Hiscox Building, where Ruth Horlock minds some 120,000 bees in hives, for views of York and a talk about urban bee-keeping by Andrew Cutts, of Urban Buzz. Tickets, £16, are from https://tinyurl.com/urbanbuzz. Profits go to St Nick’s, York Racial Equality Network, York LGBT Forum and York Civic Trust.
