COMEDIAN and agent provocateur Stewart Lee returns to York Barbican on Wednesday in his first visit since his A Room With A Stew show in June 2015.

After four years of writing and performing his BBC 2 television show Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, Lee is back on stage with a new full-length live show, Content Provider, whose content is suitable for age 16 upwards.

And what content might this malcontent provide in York? "I am playing to the biggest and most enthusiastic audiences of my career at present all over the UK, hopefully comprised exclusively of Guardian reading liberal Remain voters, and the bit where I call Leave voters racists provokes a delighted reaction during and after the show, from grateful punters, many weeping hot tears of snowflake thanks, especially in heavily Leave voting areas, where they are clearly desperate for the comforting release of pent-up emotion that sometimes only laughter can provide," says Lee in his latest website broadside.

Tickets for Lee's May 17 gig are still available at £26.64 for his 7.30pm gig on 0844 854 2757 or at yorkbarbican.co.uk
