RESIDENTS, staff and volunteers at a York care home have held a talent night in the lead up to Dementia Awareness Week.

Singing and dance performances were staged at RMBI care home Connaught Court in Fulford as part of the evening.

A spokeswoman said the contest began with members of the management and facilities teams performing ‘Greased Lightning’ from the musical ‘Grease’.

She said: “Further songs performed included ‘Save all your kisses for me’ by The Brotherhood of Men and ‘When will I see you again’ by The Three Degrees.

“Staff from dementia support house Viking also enacted ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ with a special twist.

“Whilst residents enjoyed drinks from the bar, the home’s activities team recreated a classic ‘Morecambe and Wise Breakfast’ sketch.

“Residents read aloud their favourite poems and volunteer Roger Daniel and his wife Hazel danced ‘Roll over Beethoven’ in tribute to Chuck Berry.

“A staff member’s daughter also visited to perform a Thai dance.”

Activities coordinator Stephanie Taylor said that the night provided a chance for residents to come together and enjoy some fun and unusual performances from staff and guests, as well as show off their own musical talent.

“It was a popular event and we are already planning our next talent night,” she said.

The spokeswoman added that the RMBI cared for older Freemasons and their families as well as some people in the community.

“Caring has been our way of life since 1842 and we provide a home for over 1,000 people across England and Wales – while supporting many more,” she said.

“We treat people as individuals – and we work together with everyone to design a care plan that meets their needs.”
