LIBERAL Democrats have named their candidate for a the Hull Road by-election in June.

The party has confirmed that retail worker Alex Nowis will stand for the council seat, which is being vacated by Labour councillor David Levene.

Alex came to the city to study nine years ago, and has lived here ever since. He works in retail and joined the Liberal Democrats last year.

Following his selection, he said:

“I’m standing for the council because I want the Hull Road area and the whole of York to be a fantastic place to live, work and study for everyone.”

He added: “I want to ensure we safeguard York’s unique culture and heritage – we need to showcase the fantastic things that York has to offer and ensure we have a thriving economy.

“I will campaign to invest in our young people, protect our frontline services and defend York’s Greenbelt.”

The Hull Road by election will take place on the same day as the General Election, June 8.

Other candidates include Labour’s Michael Pavlovic, the Green party’s John Cossham, and the Conservative’s Matt Freckelton.
