During the period between the rediscovery of King Richard III’s remains and his eventual re-interment, it became obvious that there was no official platform advocating Richard’s rights as a once-living, sentient human being.

Richard III’s Loyal Supporters, an international society, was formed to fill that gap, and advocate on Richard’s behalf. Our aim is to change the public’s perception of Richard the person and Richard the King.

The systematic destruction of a good man’s reputation, begun by the Tudor chroniclers, was embodied in Shakespeare’s fictional drama “The Tragedy of Richard III”.

Throughout the process of re-interring Richard's remains, Leicester Cathedral adopted the catch-phrase “ With Dignity and Honour”. They have broken this promise on several occasions, but to stage this play in the place which now houses Richard’s earthly remains goes beyond that.

It is dishonourable, ignoble and unethical in the extreme; perpetuating the destruction of a man’s character within the very place which houses the real man’s tomb.

Richard III’s Loyal Supporters deplore and condemn Leicester Cathedral for this venture. As a result, we now add our voice, alongside the Richard III Society and The Looking For Richard Team, in urgently calling for the performances of ‘Richard III’ in Leicester Cathedral to be relocated to an alternative venue, and request that no future performances of any play or film that might be considered derisive or humiliating to the memory of the king be contemplated where, it is important to remember, the man himself now lies.
