THE young woman who was hit by a car in York last weekend was in a ‘critical but stable’ condition in hospital yesterday.
The 23-year-old York woman was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary after the accident on Ouse Bridge on Saturday evening, suffering from life threatening head injuries and serious pelvic injuries.
It is understood she had come up the riverside steps from Kings Staith and was crossing Low Ousegate towards Yates when the accident occurred.
A 79-year-old driver was questioned by police in connection with the crash but was later released while inquiries into the incident continued.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw the incident, or had information that could help them, to come forward.
Ouse Bridge was closed for four hours following the collision while emergency services dealt with the incident and police carried out forensic work.
