A GIRLS football team has celebrated winning the league without losing a single game.

The Fulford Lionesses were top of the City of York Girls Football League on Saturday, after winning 17 matches and drawing three.

Lee Boyeson's 13-year-old daughter Emily is one of the players, and he has coached the team for four years.

He said he was proud to present them with the winners trophy on Saturday, and of the hard work they have put in to take it home.

Mr Boyeson said: "They have grown that confident they've sort of expected it, but they've had some tough games. It's been great, they play for each other and nearly all score goals.

"Last year they played as under-13s, their first year playing nine-a-side, they previously played seven-a-side. Last year, they won the league and the cup double, and won every game with a 100 per cent record."

The team played their final match of the season against Dunnington under-15s on Saturday, which they won 5-0.

Mr Boyeson said: "They've battled back from some defeats and shown great character in coming back. I think games like that, they've enjoyed the battle.

"I don't think this record has ever been done before. I can't think of any other team, it's a shame we've drawn those three games."
