IT MIGHT not be barbecue weather quite yet but a group of York A-level students are well prepared for when the sun arrives.
The York College students have created 18 barbecues, each with their own unique design features.
Using 3D computer aided designs (CAD) and new sheet metal fabrication techniques, the engineering students have designed and made a variety of barbeques. Some are collapsible to be picked up and transported easily while others have food preparation sections and utensil storage. They have been designed to be easily portable for families on camping trips or young festival-goers.
Rosie Bonser, one of the students who is soon to start an apprenticeship programme, says: “I can’t wait to start the apprenticeship because it is exactly what I want to do. I am dyslexic and therefore prefer to be practical – I like to think with my hands.”
