FAMILY and friends of a York woman who died from complications following a heart transplant will come together on the first anniversary of her funeral.

Amy Miller died on May 11 last year after undergoing the surgery she thought would provide the energy she needed to look after her three young children.

The 35-year-old, from Wilton Rise, Holgate, had waited years for a new organ after she was born with a congenital heart defect, but was unable to pull through after undergoing surgery at Papworth Hospital, in Cambridge.

She is survived by her three children Jessica, 15, Tinky, 11 and Charlie, six, who are being cared for by Miss Miller’s mum, Margaret.

The family are planning to remember her life with Amy Miller’s Sunday Fun Day on May 21 at The Beagle pub, and will use donations to pay for the three youngsters to go on holiday to Majorca.

The event is being organised by Miss Miller’s sister Katie and her close friends Aimee Elliott and Emma Marshall.

Miss Elliott said: “She was really popular and the day itself is going to be really good.

“Everyone is at a stand still and it still doesn’t feel real she’s gone.

“The anniversary has come round so quick and everyone is still lost without her.”

The event at the Foxwood Lane pub begins at noon and features a bouncy castle, face painting, cake stalls, entertainers and Disney characters.

“If we can make £1,000 from this we will be really happy,” added Miss Elliott.

“I think we can do it because we are hoping a lot of people will come.

“We want Amy’s children to have the same things they had when she was here.”

Miss Miller’s condition was first reported in The Press after her parents saved her life in March 2015.

The couple’s bravery saw them nominated for a Community Pride award after they re-started her heart when she collapsed at home.
