THREE public-spirited businesses have thrown their weight behind a York charity race that raises thousands of pounds for cancer awareness and research.

Hunters Estate Agents, home care experts Riccall Care and sports player management agency i2i Sports Ltd are all sponsoring R U Taking the P?, the successful annual run that’s taking place in Rowntree Park on Sunday, June 18 - Father’s Day.

York Press:

The 2016 men-only race made more than £7,000 for prostate cancer research conducted by Professor Norman Maitland at the University of York, and the same again for York Against Cancer’s work in cancer care, education and research.

The three businesses have each given £250 towards this year’s 5K and will have their logos proudly emblazoned on participants’ shirts on the day of the event.

Hunters Branch Manager David Parker said the business was delighted to be associated with the awareness-raising run and appealed for men to talk to their doctors if they were worried about prostate cancer.

He said: “This is a very prevalent killer of men and blokes need to get off their backsides and get checked.”

Gill Conroy, Director of Riccall Care, said: “It is so important to raise awareness and encourage men to visit their GP with any unusual symptoms as prostate cancer is so treatable in many cases.

Riccall Care is very happy to support RUTTP?’s organiser Brian Hughes, who generously gives so much of his time in order to raise funds for important research into this exclusively male cancer.”

Danny Gore, Director at i2i Football Academy, said: “We are really happy to be involved again this year.

“Raising awareness for prostate cancer is so important.

“Don’t think about it, just go get checked.”

York Against Cancer general manager Julie Russell said it was easy for men to sign up for the race online at http://www.yorkagainstcancer.org.uk/events/r-u-taking-p-18th-june

Brian Hughes said organisers were still keen to hear from businesses who would like to join in sponsoring the event, and called for as many men as possible to turn up for the race.
