OVER the months/years, I’ve read many letters with points of view regarding York’s Local Plan.

Planning decisions/ideas leave a lot to be desired, ie Germany Beck, Lego buildings in Piccadilly, road/bridge closures, the toilet block on our iconic Clifford’s Tower, closure of numerous car parks etc etc.

May I present my ideas, which are at the very least ambitious and visionary, if not a tad expensive: 1. Tear up the railway tracks running through York. This will create at least four new routes into the centre of York. The rail track could easily be re-routed around York. York railway station could be re-sited south of York. Access to the teardrop site would be wide open.

2. The old station could become a retail distribution point.

3. In conjunction with the re-siting of the station, York could have its own railway/bus station. There would be less “clutter” in York if this was done outside the city.

4. Around the south of York we really could make use of an existing airport at Elvington. This asset is surely commercially viable.

5. Build the new community stadium in the Sports Village, creating a real sports hub for York.

There’s my five-point plan.

Yes, I know it will need Government help.

Maybe if they’re serious about a Northern Powerhouse Julian Sturdy could use his influence.

All it takes is some of big money men to put some meat on the bones for the benefit of the folk of York.
