FOUR men have been arrested after a serious assault in York.

North Yorkshire Police said a 20-year-old man suffered injuries to his back and face in the attack, which happened close to the Costcutter shop in Chapelfields Road between 5pm and 5.33pm on Friday, April 28.

The Press understands bleach, a hammer and a knife may have been used in the attack, but North Yorkshire Police would not confirm this.

A spokesman said the alleged victim was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a 36-year-old woman who is in hospital with a suspected broken arm.

Three local men, aged 36, 25 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of assaulting the 20-year-old man. They remain in custody for questioning.

The 36-year-old woman is also due to assist officers with their enquiries following hospital treatment.
