YORK Outer MP Julian Sturdy dropped in on pupils at a York school to talk to students about the importance and value of living in a democratic society.
Students and staff at Vale of York Academy in Clifton welcomed Mr Sturdy to an extended assembly, which focused on the promotion of British Values, particularly democracy. Mr Sturdy spoke in detail to the Year 10 students about the importance of voting and the role that they, the next generation of voters will play in determining the future direction of the UK.
Mr Sturdy welcomed questions from the students on a variety of subjects including; education and health funding; Brexit and its impact on the younger generation; the potential for lowering of the legal voting age to 16; and the MP’s views on Donald Trump and his plans. Principal Helen Dowds, said: “Mr Study highlighted the importance and value of being part of a wider democratic society.”
