WITH the new increase of both fines and penalty points on drivers using their mobile phones while at the wheel, I’ve noticed more and more vehicles coming to a standstill before drivers answer their phones.
In itself it is a commendable action, but unfortunately some people just pull up at the side of the road completely oblivious to things happening around them. No spatial awareness.
Just the other day, a lady stopped her car to answer her phone in Wigginton Road on a long but narrow straight section of road and inadvertently created a tailback of vehicles having to manoeuvre past her.
So, if you have to answer your phone at the wheel, consider other road users when you stop and be spatially aware.
