A MASSIVE blaze broke out in a village near Selby after tyres and rubbish were deliberately set alight.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters from Selby battled against the blaze in Carlton this morning.
A spokesman said two crews from Selby were mobilised to a fire in the open at 9:49 am in Linwith Lane.
"On arrival, this was found to be a large amount of household rubbish and tyres which had been set alight deliberately," he said.
"Crews used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus."
Meanwhile, fire crews from Summerbridge, Harrogate and Ripon attended an accident on the B6451,at Dacre in which a car collided with a dry stone wall.
The spokesman said that on arrival, it emerged no one was trapped inside and crews assisted in making the scene safe and left the incident with police.
