YORK-BASED train operator Northern says it expects to run about 40 per cent of rail services and more than 300 additional rail replacement buses when it faces its latest day of industrial action on Friday.

It said it had also developed timetables to assist spectators heading to the Tour de Yorkshire, with services along the Wolds Coast on a reduced timetable.

The majority of ordinary services will run between 7am and 7pm, although many routes will start to wind down from late afternoon.

“All services are expected to be extremely busy and Northern is asking customers to allow extra time for journeys, plan carefully and consider whether travel is necessary,” said a spokesman.

Northern services include the York to Harrogate route, York to Leeds and Selby to Hull.

Regional director Sharon Keith said: “Our timetables have been developed to provide services on our busiest routes, at the busiest times of day.”
