THE UNIVERSITY of York has held its place in a national league table, but York St John has seen its position slip.

The Complete University Guide published its rankings for 2018 today, showing that while the University of York has held its place at 20th nationally, York St John has fallen 15 places from 107th to 122nd.

Karen Stanton, vice chancellor at York St John University said: “We are committed to providing an excellent student experience supported by high quality teaching.

“We look at the various results across different performance tables and data to challenge ourselves and continuously improve. For example, over the past year, we have invested significantly in enhancing student facilities and developing our approach to research. We have actually seen a big increase in applications to study at York St John University this year, indicating that the changes we are making are both attractive and responsive to student feedback.”

The University of York also features eight times in the top ten listings for specific subjects. A spokesman for the university said they were pleased to maintain their place, but were always looking for improvements.

Leeds has kept its place as number one in Yorkshire. Overall, Cambridge has kept its number one spot followed by Oxford in second.

Dr Bernard Kingston, chairman of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, said: “This year there is a considerable degree of stability at the upper end of the league table, as in the past. This stability, while it may not attract the headlines, demonstrates that the rankings fulfil our principal objective – to provide credible and freely accessible information for individuals seeking a university place.”
