YOUNGSTERS got a kick out of meeting BBC football commentator Guy Mowbray, who paid a visit to a York school to open its new sports arena.

He visited Clifton Green Primary School yesterday and cut the ribbon to officially open the new facility in the playground.

The project has been funded by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, as well as funding from the school's own resources.

The arena can be used for a variety of sports, including football, tennis, badminton, hockey, basketball and netball.

Danny Palmer, head of sport at Clifton Green Primary, said: "This is part of our ongoing plans to make sports provision better at the school as well as improving play time experiences for children.

"Hopefully the facility will be used for generations to come."

He added: "Guy commentated on both FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley at the weekend so to have him in our yard was brilliant."

One pupil at the school said: "It's great to have a new addition to the playground. I can't wait to play in it. It was great to meet Guy Mowbray."

The sports arena was built over the Easter holiday and was completed on Friday.
