A YORK restaurant is serving up a special breakfast today to raise funds for a 24-year-old’s trip to Tanzania.

The Botanist, in Stonegate, is inviting sponsors to a breakfast event tomorrow to support Jodie Braithwaite, from Copmanthorpe, and help her raise £1,500 before she sets off on her three month trip to Africa.

Jodie is a volunteer for youth-led development agency, Restless Development, and is visiting Tanzania this summer to help educate and provide youngsters with new opportunities.

The event, held at the recently opened bar restaurant site in York, is inviting the business community from across the city and beyond to join them for breakfast and is giving them an opportunity to meet new contacts, network and support the cause.

“I’m overwhelmed by The Botanist’s choice to support me in my cause; it’s such a fantastic venue which I’m delighted wants to be associated with Restless Development,” said Jodie.

“I’m aiming to raise £1,500 to fund my trip, which felt almost impossible prior to The Botanist’s involvement.”

Richard Pearson, general manager for The Botanist, said: “Jodie’s work in Tanzania is incredibly admirable and The Botanist is proud to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.

“We thoroughly look forward to welcoming the business community of York to The Botanist for this very special event.”

Jodie’s trip is part of the Government funded International Citizen Service (ICS) programme, which allows young people aged 18 to 25-years-old to make a contribution to development projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The breakfast event runs from 9am to 11am.

The Botanist in York opened its doors in November, the eleventh site for the pub and restaurant chain, and appointed Richard Pearson as general manager in April 2017 following his time in an assistant role at the Leeds premise.
