A YORK solicitors’ firm which supports the Community Pride Awards says it has been "humbled" to see the number of selfless people in the area who help others and raise funds for good causes.

Pryers Solicitors, in The Stonebow, is backing the Charity Fundraiser of the Year category once again in the 2017 Community Pride Awards.

For this category, amateur fundraisers need not necessarily have raised the most cash, but will be judged on innovative fundraising methods and the amount of effort they have put in.

A spokesperson for Pryers said: "Over the years we have sponsored this award we have been humbled to see how many wonderful people there are in the area that will selflessly work to help others and raise funds for very worthy causes.

"This year, we are sure will be no different, and we would urge anyone who thinks they would like to nominate someone they know to do so, so they get the recognition for the wonderful work that they do."

The winner of the Charity Fundraiser of the Year award in 2016 was Ian Jones, who raised money by organising two bike rides from York City's Bootham Crescent's to Northampton's Sixfields stadium.

The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden.

All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area.

Three finalists from each category will be invited to the awards ceremony at York Racecourse in October, when the winners will be revealed.

Entries can be submitted to York Community Pride Awards, The Press, 84-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN.

You can also nominate online at yorkpress.co.uk/communitypride.

The closing date for entries is Friday, July 21. You must include a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 with each nomination, and may include a picture, which unfortunately we will be unable to return.
