TAKE Me Out presenter Paddy McGuinness has paid tribute to a York student who appeared on the show.

Charlie Watkins, 22, graduated from the University of York last summer.

Following his sudden death the university and friends have paid tribute to him.  

Over the weekend comedian Paddy, who fronts the ITV dating show, tweeted his dedication to the man who had been looking for love.

 He was inundated with viewers sharing their sympathies with Charlie’s loved ones.

Professor Nick Ellison, Head of Department in Social Policy and Social Work at York said: “Both the Sociology and Social Policy and Social Work Departments are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Charlie Watkins.

“Charlie came to the University of York as a first year student to study for his BA in Criminology in 2013 and graduated in July 2016.

“Charlie was enthusiastic about his studies and was an active member of Drama Soc and the Lacrosse Club during his time at York

“Our thoughts at this very sad time are with his family and friends and the students and staff he got to know at the University of York”.

Isaac Beevor, York Sport President, added: “I knew Charlie through friends, sport and though running together for a sabbatical year.

“I just loved the fact that he always seemed so happy to see me, he would greet me with a massive smile on his face and that was how he was with everyone.

“Charlie was such a loved member of the Lacrosse club and was popular throughout the University. He will be sorely missed and will always be remembered.”

A Thames spokesman said: “It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the tragic news regarding Charlie.

“Our thoughts and best wishes go to his family and friends. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
