MORE than 200 riders headed out of York this morning when the city’s Inset Scooter Club held its 10th annual St George’s Day run.

The riders set off from the Eye of York, waved off by the city’s Lord Mayor, and rode out through the villages of Sheriff Hutton and Bulmer to Beadlam, near Kirkbymoorside.

The club’s Nick Beilby said: “It went brilliantly.

“We had more than 200 riders, which was really good, and we had three members of the York Normandy Veterans’ Association and the full civic party, as well as a special appearance by St George and the dragon.”

Veterans Ken Smith, Ken Cooke and George Meredith were there to wave the riders off at the start of the run.

Nick added: “We had scooterists who had come from as far away as Preston. It’s well known now, and people come back year after year.”

Money raised goes to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
