FABULOUS floral costumes are forming the centrepiece of this week’s Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
The event at the Great Yorkshire Showground will feature an exclusive exhibition of spectacular wearable art along the theme ‘HortCouture.’
The Christchurch Connection, which features costumes by award-winning New Zealand artist Jenny Gillies, is a European first.
The former microbiologist started making costumes after a sunflower hat she made was spotted at the races and she was commissioned to make more.
She has gone on to produce pieces for theatre, film and opera.
Her gowns begin with a real flower, which she pulls apart to create patterns, ensuring that her creation is botanically correct. Each piece takes up to three months and 70 metres of sumptuous silk to complete. The flower show runs from today until Sunday.
