A WOMAN who was being treated for long-standing mental health problems was found hanging by schoolchildren at a York nature reserve, an inquest was told.

The body of Elizabeth Walton, 37, of Burdyke Avenue, Clifton, was discovered at Clifton Backies on the morning of January 25 last year.

Health professionals told the hearing yesterday how she had suffered from various mental health issues, including low self-esteem and body image obsessions, which sometimes meant she would not go out.

She had spoken in graphic terms of taking her own life but the risk of suicide was assessed to be low.

Theresa Sanders, locality manager for adult mental health services for York and Selby at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, said a serious incident investigation had identified no root cause or contributory factors in her death.

Coroner Rob Turnbull, concluding that she took her own life, said: “I am quite satisfied that everything that could have been done to assist her was done.”
