YORK City’s futsal team have been accepted into the FA’s National Super League for the 2017/18 season.
The Minstermen have been in imperious form this season, storming to the second division league title courtesy of an undefeated campaign.
But the champions have had to wait for a decision from the FA as the existing league structure was changed from two regional divisions to a single National Super League.
Confirmation has now been received, though, that York will pit their skills against the leading teams in the country.
There will also be an opportunity to qualify for the European Champions League, with City futsal head coach Junior Roberti enthusing: “I’m so happy.
“There has been so much work going into this from everyone at the club, the sponsors, players, volunteers and fans.
“It’s brilliant that the city will see the highest level of futsal in the country and this season has been a dream.”
City visit Manchester in the FA Cup on Sunday, while Foundation manager and club chairwoman Paula Stainton added her congratulations on the team’s Super League acceptance.
“We have a great set-up starting from the junior futsal academy through to the men’s team, which we were able to present to the league,” Stainton pointed out. “We’re now looking forward to progressing that further next season.”
