YOUNGSTERS in East Yorkshire showed off their their creative writing skills in a competition.

Pupils at Martongate Primary School in Bridlington were challenged to write a story with the theme ‘By the Sea’ to acknowledge Bridlington’s rich nautical heritage.

The competition, organised by housebuilder McCarthy and Stone, was to celebrate World Story Telling Day, and also saw the pupils take part in an interactive, cross-generational story-telling session.

Pupils performed their winning short stories to friends and family.

After reviewing all the entries, McCarthy and Stone’s North East team felt Keira Butcher’s story stood out from the crowd.

As the lucky winner of the competition, she was awarded with £50 worth of book vouchers.

Four fellow pupils and chosen runners-up, which included Ruby Smith, Scarlett Benson, Connor Courtley and Leon Pratley, were also presented with a £25 book voucher each.
