Evo-Stik Division One North: Tadcaster Albion 1 Hyde United 2

THERE was an end-of-season feel at the i2i stadium on Saturday as Tadcaster Albion were defeated by Hyde United.

The Brewers manager Billy Miller named the same starting 11 that lost the West Riding County Cup final to Farsley Celtic on Tuesday night, with Piteu Crouz and Jason Mycoe returning to the bench.

Taddy started the match on top, with Tom Corner glancing a Jordan Armstrong cross just wide, followed by Carl Stewart also firing off target.

Defender Gregg Anderson was close to continuing his recent goal-scoring form, lashing across the face of goal from Jonathan Greening's corner.

On an afternoon where the constant blustery wind hampered an entertaining spectacle, the travelling Tigers took the lead seven minutes from the break.

After an obscene amount of headers and volleys back and forth around the Taddy penalty area, Matthew Beadle showed off his ingenuity to divert the ball past Chandler Hallwood with an unorthodox yet affective overhead kick.

Despite it having been an uninspiring first half, Miller's side spurned a golden chance right on half-time.

Greening clipped an inch-perfect ball over the top for Carl Stewart to pounce, but his prodded effort cannoned straight into goalkeeper Russell Saunders.

After a number of scares at the back, with Beadle and Harry Coates both missing chances for Hyde, Darren Kelly's side doubled their lead 16 minutes from time.

It was the No 9 Beadle again on target, this being a much easier finish than the first as he nodded the ball home from just a couple of yards.

However, the two-goal deficit lasted less than two minutes as Anderson won a battle in the box before poking in his third goal of the season.

The goal certainly lifted the Brewers, along with the fans, as they pushed hard for an equaliser.

Crouz came on and brought a freshness to Taddy as the tricky winger continued to cause Hyde problems down the right-hand flank.

Incidentally, it was Crouz who had the one big chance to pinch a point in the dying embers.

Hallwood's kick set the enigmatic Crouz in behind, and he cut inside but could only strike the ball into the chest of defender Coates.

Despite a late surge, it was without doubt a poor performance from Taddy, who seem to be looking ahead to next season already.
